The mission of the Tommy Finnegan Legacy Foundation (TFLF) is to provide assistance to families whose children have suffered illness, rendering them physically and/or mentally challenged. The support provided will directly affect and enhance the life of that child, which in turn benefits the family as a whole. The TFLF will provide assistance, utilizing resources gathered through fundraising events, after evaluating the needs of each family seeking assistance.
HISTORY
Thomas “Tommy” Finnegan was born
on February 28, 1988 and passed away on March
1, 2008. Tommy could not speak, was confined
to a wheelchair, tube fed, had to endure countless
surgeries and illnesses but was an inspiration
to all of those who were fortunate enough to
have known him.
Tommy was diagnosed with Tyrosinemia weeks after
being born and received a liver transplant in
June of 1988 thereby, at that time, becoming
the worlds youngest liver transplant recipient.
Months later it was realized that prior to Tommy
receiving his new liver; Tyrosinemia had caused
neurological damage, which left him with severe
to profound cerebral palsy and mental retardation.
To assist Tommy’s father and mother in
providing all they could for Tommy’s needs,
family and friends united in what became the
annual “Tourney for Tommy” 3 on
3 basketball tournament. Tommy’s passed
away from complications due to pneumonia 1 day
before his 18th annual tournament.
THE TRADITION CONTINUES
Tommy’s life brought out the best in human
beings. So it is with that experience his family
and friends formed The Tommy Finnegan Legacy
Foundation to assist other families in need.
The TFLF is an IRS recognized Not for Profit
501(c)(3) charitable organization and as such
is eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions
from donors.
